The price is $25 and the tickets will be available between 9 AM and Noon and 2 PM to 4 PM. Additional days for ticket sales will be Wednesday, September 8th, Friday September 10th and Monday, September 13th, or until sold out. Groups can reserve a table for no more than 10, but the group reservations must be purchased together and any special dietary concerns noted at that time. Seating is limited so plan now to have a member of your group secure the needed tickets. Chef Dave from SaddleBrooke HOA1 has created a special Oriental themed meal featuring chicken skewers with Hoisin Sauce, fried rice, and Asian slaw. Vegetarians may substitute Tofu skewers. There will also be dessert as well as tea, coffee, and iced-tea available.
Jamie Ford’s first novel, published just last year, quickly achieved the New York Times Bestseller list. Set in Seattle in both 1942 and 1986, this is a story of young love, lost and found again, with the backdrop of the war-time internment of the Japanese-American population. From the Library Journal: “…Ford expertly nails the sweet innocence of first love, the cruelty of racism, the blindness of patriotism, the astonishing unknowns between parents and their children, and the sadness and satisfaction at the end of a life well lived. The result is a vivid picture of a confusing and critical time in American history.”
We expect to learn what led Jamie Ford to investigate this fascinating period in history, and how both the Chinese-American and Japanese-American populations responded to his tale. Although residing in the hinterlands of Montana, he has been traveling the nation speaking to literary groups and cultural groups alike. Jamie Ford will be appearing solo and promises to be both informative and entertaining. FSL is pleased to be able to host this promising new author early in his career. His second novel is due out next year, and like his first, is an historical, multi-cultural love story. Tentatively titled Whispers of a Thunder God, it is about a former kamikaze pilot and his search for spiritual reunion with his late wife. With all the praise his debut novel received, this one will no doubt garner plenty of attention.
